Official Rules
Gerbils must be awake when the chew is started.
The chew object shall be a standard toilet paper tube.
Time shall be measured with a stopwatch.
Time shall begin when the tube is dropped into the tank.
If gerbils do not begin chewing within one minute, the judges may
choose to remove the tube, and/or restart the clock.
Marking, sniffing, or running through the tube are all considered
valid pre-chewing activities and shall be counted as part of the
official time.
Gerbils may leave no more than one remainder per gerbil, each no
larger than approximately 1.5" in diameter.
If gerbils cease chewing before they have chewed the tube to
acceptable remainders, judges may let the clock run for one minute
before stopping the clock to see if they continue with the chew.
If the gerbils resume the chew before falling asleep again,
judges may restart the clock and use the cumulative time.
Chews must be completed during one session of judges' continuous
supervision. They may not be continued over multiple sessions or days.
Chew sessions that do not meet the above criteria will be
disqualified, but the same chewing team may try again in another
session.
